History of Adampur

Adjoining regions of Adampur saw few prominent events during India’s Independence movement against Britishers. One such event was Khilafat Movement, a movement launched by Indian Muslims to protest against abolishment of Islamic Caliphate in Turkey. Mahatma Gandhi had also lends its support to Khilafat Movement to foster Hindu Muslim unity. This movement had become so popular across Jalandar district that Britishers had to ban all types of meetings and rallies in the region. Even small town of Adampur had witnessed few nights of curfew when Britishers strictly clamped down to derail Khilafat Movement.

Economy of Adampur

Adampur has a very mixed economy, with service sector playing the most frontal and industrial sector playing a second fiddle role. Besides, agricultural sector also plays marginal yet important role in driving the local economy forward. Transportation in Adampur
